No. 055: On Hope and Action
Fall Retreat / Land Opportunities / Fundraising / Living Room Series / PAR / Sequoia Samanvaya Offerings
These are challenging times. We understand the immense weight and concern that the current environmental crisis can bring. It is undeniable that we are witnessing the devastating impacts of climate change all around us. Rising temperatures, unprecedented flooding, extreme wildfires, and other ecological disruptions and losses can leave us feeling overwhelmed and disheartened. The urgency to take action has never been greater. The issues at hand are so large and global that many of us don’t even know how or where to begin.
So, why not begin and lead with hope?
Hope is not passive; it is an active force that propels us to imagine and work towards a better future. It is through hope that we find the courage, strength, determination, and resilience to face the immense task of addressing climate change.
Maintaining hope does not mean ignoring the severity of the situation or underestimating the magnitude of the changes needed. Rather, it means recognizing the potential for positive transformation and understanding that our collective actions can make a difference. Every act of advocacy and every conversation we engage in has the potential to contribute to the larger movement for change.
So let’s collect, advocate, and engage. Check in with your friends, neighbors, and local representatives. To identify your legislator, you can use the Find Your Representative tool or Search for Your Senators by state. Once you identify your members of Congress, the best place to find their contact information is on their website. Don’t sit back now. Bridge the gap between hope and action: speak up.
Thank you for continuing to be an integral part of Rē’s conversation. Your continued participation fuels our hope and strengthens our resolve.
With gratitude,
The Rē community

G R O U N D I N G I N L A N D : The Regenerative School is looking to put down roots. We are exploring a couple of potential acreage options to seed our dreams for an eco-campus and a memorial community garden in honor of G. Scott Laing, Director Ashlei Laing’s late father, who was known in the seacoast community for his vegetables. If you have any leads or suggestions regarding potential land options in the Northeast, please do not hesitate to reach out to us. We welcome any assistance you can provide in this endeavor. Together, we can create a vibrant and sustainable plot that serves as a catalyst for education, community building, environmental stewardship, and wholesome produce and conversation.
Rē is starting think about F U N D R A I S I N G events for the end of the year. The word “Gala” has been thrown around a couple of times. . . but we are leaning more towards a “community-to-table” event. Stay tuned for details, dates, and tickets.
If you are unable donate dollars to Rē, consider donating time! We are looking for hosts and homes for upcoming L I V I N G R O O M S E R I E S and community events. Reach out to admin@regenerativeschool.org to find out more.
P A R T I C I P A T O R Y A C T I O N R E S E A R C H (PAR) is a bottom-up approach that emphasizes collaborative knowledge production by marginalized and local stakeholders who possess the daily, lived experience of the issues at hand. PAR empowers and capacitates communities to gather and analyze information to generate and apply solutions driven by their own needs and aspirations. It is active listening put in practice and in research. Rē has been working with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP) Global Campus over the last couple of years to build out an online “Peacebuilding through PAR” course. L A N D A C K N O W L E D G E M E N T C O U R S E : Whether you are part of an organization or not, this learning is integral to relearning how we think of place and belonging. This is inner work. “Too often, land acknowledgments become performative. Hasty and awkward, they don't actually provide avenues to say hello to the land we are on, respect the dis-membered past, or begin the art of repair.” In this workshop, Sequoia Samanvaya’s Rev. Sara Jolena Wolcott takes participants on a journey to transform truth into action and workshop their own relationship to local history and land. Coming September 2023!
R E M E M B E R I N G C L I M A T E C H A N G E : Join us for a spiritual journey through time and space into our shared inheritance. After 500 years of justifying colonization and mass genocide of Indigenous peoples, the Vatican has finally rejected the Doctrine of Discovery. Even so, this antiquated Doctrine isn’t buried in the past, it continues to impact tribal sovereignty today and shape how we perceive Climate Change. Come join the Rē School in a 12-session ReMembering course from Sequoia Samanvaya. Rev. Sara Walcott will take us through early imperialism, the Destruction of Turtle Island, the codification of the Doctrine of Discovery, and more. Coming October 2023!
Exact dates are yet to be announced but if you are interested in participating with our international community on these two timely opportunities, email michael@sequoiasamanvaya.com or visit sequoiasamanvaya.com/remembering for more information and registration details.
