Stress Awareness
Fire Circle at Alnoba/In the Garden with Isabel/A Moment with Maya/NE Seacoast Earth Day Events/Middle TN Earth Day Event
April is designated as national stress awareness month, aiming to draw attention to the negative effects of stress in our lives. It also seeks to increase awareness of the root causes of our modern-day stress epidemic, providing an opportunity for open conversations about its impact. The key focus of this month is prioritizing physical, mental, and emotional health and well-being. At Rē we call this tending to our inner landscape and this may involve putting themselves first and taking steps to reduce stress in any way possible. We encourage you to explore various methods of managing stress, such as exercise, breath work, engaging in enjoyable activities, maintaining a healthy diet, and getting adequate rest. Together, let's tend our inner landscape and navigate this world peacefully, one step at a time.

In the Garden with Isabel~
I am so excited for spring this year at our garden out at Camp Kent. I have spent some time walking the grounds seeing all the signs of life coming back to the pond and forest. We have some beautiful skunk cabbages and marsh marigolds already popping up. Walking out to the dock I was greeted by happy sunbathing turtles and our first beavers of the year! We also have plenty of birds singing in the trees and a hawk that was swooping overhead out by the gardens. With all this vivid life outside, our seedlings for the garden this summer are thriving. We have already spent time re-potting them to much bigger pots so they can get even bigger before we get them in the ground.
For Earth Day this year, we are excited to invite the community to come enjoy the wildlife and our gardens! We will be having a volunteer day and garden opening on April 27th from 9am-12pm at Camp Kent. We will be spending the day getting some big projects done for our garden. This includes spreading the 3 yards of compost we bought from Black Earth compost. We will also be spreading wood chips, flipping over turf for our garden, transplanting seedlings, revitalizing our own compost, preparing more spots for pollinator gardens, as well as some other projects in the garden. We will have a corn husk doll making station with corn husks from Tuckaway farm and we will be sharing some of our seedlings and splits from our pollinator garden. We are excited to host a community event and kickstart these gardens. We now have a garden newsletter with information for anyone who would like to volunteer. Please let us know if you are interested in getting this newsletter.
Gardening and being outside are both well known for their ability to reduce stress. It can be so hard in the winter to do these activities and as a farmer and gardener, I find myself on my computer inside more than I would like this time of year. However, I find that when I take small breaks, to not look at my screen, to go outside, to take deep breaths of the sometimes still chilly air, it helps me re-center myself for the work ahead. I feel so lucky that most of my online work is to get ready for all the gardening I will be doing later in the season. With the seedlings starting to pop up, I am reminded of a quote by the inspirational Robin Wall Kimmerer. “Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.” I think this is a perfect reminder that, no matter your skill set or the scale in which you take on a project, gardening is a beautiful way to help the environment and yourself.

A Moment with Maya~
I'm excited to announce a new phase of collaboration with Empower with Nature and Rē to strengthen our educational endeavors. I'll be traveling to Tennessee and Seacoast New England with Ashlie Laing, co-founder and director of The Regenerative School, combining academic programs, participatory researches, experiential tours, retreats, and workshops.
During our road trip, we eagerly anticipate reconnecting with community, colleagues, and collaborators while also forging new partnerships with farms, educational institutions, universities, and diverse communities, including women, minorities, indigenous peoples, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Our aim is to expand our network of collaboration, drawing upon the rich tapestry of traditions, cultures, and perspectives to co-create impactful educational programs. We hope to engage in meaningful conversations and exchanges that will inspire new ideas and initiatives, fostering a sense of unity and understanding among all participants. By embracing diversity and inclusivity, we aim to create a supportive and empowering environment for learning and growth.
We firmly believe that by amplifying the voices of all communities and fostering collaboration across various backgrounds, we can truly regenerate education and serve both society and nature. If you share our vision and wish to collaborate, we warmly invite you to reach out to us. We eagerly await the opportunity to join forces with both familiar faces and new friends, as together, we shape a brighter future. Let's work together towards a more sustainable and innovative world.
