The RēMind, No. 009: Many Small Actions Make a Large Impact
Fibershed / Paul Hawken’s Regeneration Release / Regeneration Pollinators / EcoForce Global / Guerrilla Gardens
In this weeks newsletter, we’re exploring how multiple small regenerative actions can lead to a large collective impact to create a beautiful world.
Fibershed is creating circular regional fiber sheds; similar to a water shed but for the circulation of fiber, fabric, clothing, and farmland. Paul Hawken’s new book release Regeneration inspires us all into the possible reality that the climate crisis can be solved within one generation. Regeneration Pollination connects regenerative change-makers and projects by facilitating global speed-networking events. EcoForce Global has designed a model that plants trees for items purchased, making reforestation more accessible to businesses and customers. Guerrilla Gardens are bringing life to green patches and communities all over the Netherlands.
Whether it’s the clothes you wear, books you read, video calls you attend, businesses you support, or flowers you plant on the side of the road - our daily actions and choices ripple out into big waves that influence our world.
-Ruth Sevigny, Editor
Fibershed
What is the impact of the clothes we buy and wear? Knowing where our clothes come from is as important to knowing about our food systems. The industrialized model of fast fashion extracts fossil fuels for poly-fibers, exploits unethical labor, increases global trade transport emissions, feeds consumer’s needs to buy more and more, releases micro plastics into the water cycles and the human body, all while creating a tremendous amount of landfill waste.
Focused on the fibers and dyes used by textile industries, Fibershed has created a thoughtful model that takes all of these harmful factors into consideration.
Our Mission: Fibershed is a non-profit organization that develops equity-focused regional and land regenerating natural fiber and dye systems. Our work expands opportunities to implement climate beneficial agriculture, rebuild regional manufacturing, and connect end-users to the source of our fiber through direct educational offerings. We are transforming the economic and ecologic systems that clothe us to generate equitable and climate change ameliorating textile cultures.

Regeneration Book
Paul Hawken’s new book Regeneration will hit bookshelves worldwide on September 14, 2021. Paul is a well known and respected environmentalist, entrepreneur, author and activist with a large influence on the public over the years.
Paul, in his usual inimitable way, describes the most important solutions to the environmental and social problems we have brought upon ourselves, and shows how they are inseparably linked. Regeneration is honest and informative, a rebuttal to doomsayers who believe it is too late. He echoes my sincere belief that we have a window of time, that there are practical solutions, and that we and all our institutions can initiate and implement them in order to restore life climatic stability and on Earth. Let us work to live up to our scientific name: Homo sapiens, the wise ape.
— From the Foreword by Jane Goodall

EcoForce Global

EcoForce Global is a network that allows businesses and customers to plant trees with their purchases. This is a exciting model that encourages, empowers and shows everyone just how simple and easy it can be to contribute to important global factors to address like reforestation - without it seeming like a big job to tackle. As more people look to align their purchasing with their values, businesses that integrate ecology into their economic models will become champions of positive global change.

Guerrilla Gardens
“But what if there was a way to advocate for the environment in your local neighbourhood through small, everyday actions?
Guerrilla gardening is the act of cultivating plants in a public place, usually in a spot that is not otherwise being cared for, often with the aim of improving the surroundings and protecting the environment. It has a range of benefits from improving biodiversity to helping to keep temperatures low.”
Guerrilla gardens are perfect for bringing a spark of life and beauty to any plain or uncared for patch. The Guerrilla Gardens in the Netherlands are focused on greening concrete jungles to increase biodiversity for pollinators, sharing educational content, and activating community connection.
Have you spotted a patch of land that would benefit from a little garden?
