The RēMind, No. 014:
LOVE Garden Fundraiser / ALLY Report / SAGE Handbook of Participatory Research and Inquiry / TedX PermaQueer Conference
Happy Thanksgiving weekend to all!
We hope this newsletter finds you with full hearts and bellies. In this edition of The RēMind, we highlight an ongoing fundraiser for our LOVE garden, some rēcent publications, and spotlight the TedX PermaQueer Conference.
UPDATES FROM Rē:
It's time for our annual LOVE Garden fundraiser!
Hard to believe we just wrapped up our 5th year providing fresh, local veggies for folks here in our hometown of Fayetteville, Tennessee.
If you'd like to support our work with the LOVE Garden, please donate here!
We’d like to use this campaign as an opportunity to increase community engagement and access in the garden. We hope to add an upgraded water catchment system and cold frames for winter food production in the next year. We would also like to install outdoor lighting and a small raised platform for our musician friends to perform in this awesome urban space.
Every dollar makes a difference! If we reach or exceed our $600 campaign goal, SeedMoney.org will provide additional grant funding on top of our crowdsourced total.
We are so appreciative of your support and interest in our work!
Our “Nature and Belonging:” Finding Connection Through Nature and the Senses has been POSTPONED until the New Year. Stay tuned for dates!
Many of us live with a sense of rootlessness, either physically untethered to place, spiritually aloof, or both. We find ourselves as migrants in our own cities, towns and lives; detached from the places, situations, and one another.
Our 'Nature and Belonging' course takes on this challenge by exploring concepts from eco-psychology and phenomenological techniques that engage your five senses. The three week program, led by Maya Galimidi, founder of Empower With Nature, will help course participants find connection and build re-connection with the place where they are.
Are you planning to have family over for the holidays?
Shopping local not only supports our wonderful community and our neighboring farm families but also provide you and yours with the freshest, most nutrient-dense food items. As you give thanks this season and consider hosting and planning meals for the holidays, please consider our Middle TN farms here on our local resource list!
RēCENT PUBLICATIONS
ALLY (Amplifying the Leadership of Local Youth) Report
Big congratulations to our Co-Director Felix Bivens and all the dedicated peacebuilders and action researchers who contributed to this important new ALLY (Amplifying the Leadership of Local Youth) report on youth peacebuilding in South Asia, including analyses of Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka!
The ALLY report is a significant contribution to the expanding body of knowledge in the field of youth, peace and security (YPS). The study marks the first comprehensive analysis of youth-led peacebuilding specific to the South Asia region, as understood from the perspective of youth peacebuilders. Carried out as a participatory action research process in which youth peacebuilders were the key informants, analysts and authors, this report offers a practitioner's view of youth-led peacebuilding in a complex and fragmented region, where violent extremism has long been an issue.

The SAGE Handbook of Participatory Research and Inquiry
Felix also recently co-authored a Chapter on “Storytelling as participatory research” with Joanna Wheeler of University of the Western Cape (UWC).
The SAGE Handbook presents contemporary, cutting-edge approaches to participatory research and inquiry. It has been designed for the community of researchers, professionals and activists engaged in interventions and action for social transformation, and for readers interested in understanding the state of the art in this domain. The Handbook offers an overview of different influences on participatory research, explores in detail how to address critical issues and design effective participatory research processes, and provides detailed accounts of how to use a wide range of participatory research methods.

TedX PermaQueer Conference
The TedX PermaQueer Conference runs today, November 27th and next Saturday, December 4th! The conferences focuses on the cultural shifts needed to help mitigate climate change.
Tackling our ongoing climate crisis means adjusting the behaviours, attitudes and relationships we hold with the environment and with each other… A variety of speakers will explore how shifting culture from mainstream society, whether ancient or modern, can help change our current climate path.
Tickets run on a sliding scale / pay what you can basis. Here is the event link for those interested in tuning in today or next week.
