In this week’s newsletter, we comb through current events through a regenerative lens. From King Charles III's coronation to Patagonia's latest announcement, we offer up reading from differing perspectives and outlets on what to make of current events and what it means for our climate and all those living.
For those interested in helping our kin recover from Hurricane Fiona in Puerto Rico, we proudly refer you to our incredible friends at the Institute for Socio-Ecological Research, ISER Caribe.
Bali, Stacy, Ryan and their team are accepting donations for a long-term solution for renewable energy and water projects in southwestern Puerto Rico, where the eye of the storm passed by. ISER Caribe will be focusing on three main areas: fiscal sponsorship of community organizations, long-term solutions to the energy and water situation crisis in PR, and developing a resource center in Cabo Rojo to distribute material to affected families.

RēMembering the Origins of Climate Change
According to educator and theologian Parker Palmer, "the opposite of to remember isn't to forget, it's to dis-member." Course facilitator Sara Jolena Walcott applies this framework to our fragmented, short-term understanding of climate change. In this new, three-part course, participants will trace the roots of climate change back 500 years to its roots in colonialism, racism, and theology. Along the way participants in the course will also delve into their own family histories to make sense of the deep history of how we have arrived at today's climate crisis and how we can instead choose to build a more regenerative future. Click here to learn more about this upcoming course! Watch this space for dates and more details!

Becoming Kin: An Indigenous Call to Unforgetting the Past and Reimagining Our Future
Weaving her own story with the story of her ancestors and with the broader themes of creation, replacement, and disappearance, Patty Krawec helps readers see settler colonialism through the eyes of an Indigenous writer. Settler colonialism tried to force us into one particular way of living, but the old ways of kinship can help us imagine a different future. Krawec asks, What would it look like to remember that we are all related? How might we become better relatives to the land, to one another, and to Indigenous movements for solidarity? Braiding together historical, scientific, and cultural analysis, Indigenous ways of knowing, and the vivid threads of communal memory, Krawec crafts a stunning, forceful call to "unforget" our history. Growing a Revolution: Bringing Our Soil Back to Life
David R. Montgomery introduces us to farmers around the world at the heart of a brewing soil health revolution that could bring humanity’s ailing soil back to life remarkably fast. Growing a Revolution draws on visits to farms in the industrialized world and developing world to show that a combination of farming practices can deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions to problems farmers face today. No-till planting, cover crops, and diverse crop rotations provides the essential recipe to rebuild soil organic matter. Farmers using these unconventional practices cultivate beneficial soil life, smother weeds, and suppress pests while relying on far less, if any, fertilizer and pesticides. Combining ancient wisdom with modern science, Growing a Revolution lays out a solid case for an inspiring vision where agriculture becomes the solution to environmental problems, helping feed us all, cool the planet, and restore life to the land. Resilient Prototype Homes in Puerto Rico Kept Lights On During Hurricane Fiona
In Puerto Rico, hundreds of thousands of people are still waiting for water and power to be restored following Hurricane Fiona. Fiona was just a Category 1 hurricane, but it dropped more than 30 inches of rain on some areas. It’s the five-year anniversary of Hurricane Maria’s landfall over Puerto Rico, and the island is experiencing grim déjà vu in the wake of Hurricane Fiona.
Luckily, prototype homes have been successfully designed and built by a nonprofit named Resilient Power Puerto Rico to be as affordable as possible while still resilient in disasters… and they survived the recent hurricane. Click here to read how.
Patagonia: “Earth is now our only shareholder”
“Hopefully this will influence a new form of capitalism that doesn’t end up with a few rich people and a bunch of poor people,” Mr. Chouinard. “We are going to give away the maximum amount of money to people who are actively working on saving this planet.”
Is it a groundbreaking philanthropic move, or a way to avoid taxes? Here are some different opinions and outlines of the latest Patagonia news. What do you make of it?
